Micklefield Hall wedding photography – Victoria and Tom’s wedding at Micklefield Hall was a particularly gorgeous one, and one that had so many lovely personal touches running through the whole day. I absolutely LOVED it!
They had their legal ceremony first thing in the beautiful Rose Garden, with just their parents and two friends there as witnesses. It was a really intimate little service, and I think we were all slightly surprised by just how emotional it was. There were definitely a few tears (and not just from the photographer!).
After that, it was time to get ready properly, with Victoria and Tom changing into their wedding outfits ready for the main event. The ceremony took place outside by the pond which is such a beautiful spot for an outdoor wedding.
It wasn’t a Jewish wedding, but Victoria and Tom included some lovely Jewish elements in the day. They started their ceremony by circling each other, and ended it with the traditional smashing of the glass. The ceremony itself was beautifully conducted by one of their friends (wearing a very fetching halo headband!). Victoria’s mum also gave a sermon, which made the whole thing feel incredibly personal.
One personal touch I thought was amazing was the Choir of Man. Victoria is a huge fan of the musical, so she had arranged for some of the cast members to perform during the wedding. The ceremony started with one of the singers standing up and singing Someone to Love, but with the chorus changed to “can anybody find Tom somebody to love?” as Victoria walked down the aisle. It was brilliant, and definitely a moment that nobody there was going to forget.
After the ceremony, the Choir of Man singers were back, this time singing I Would Walk 500 Miles as everyone left the ceremony and formed the confetti line. It was such a good choice. It kept the energy really high and, as an added bonus, definitely encouraged everyone to get through the confetti pretty quickly!
Another great touch was how smoothly and quickly group photos were done. Victoria and Tom agreed a nice short formal photo list, and before the day they briefed everyone who’d be needed to head straight to the group photo area after the confetti. This meant everyone assembled immediately and we managed to get all the group photos done in less than 10 minutes, meaning the newlyweds could head back to enjoy eating their canapes, I mean talking to their wedding guests!
Everyone then joined the rest of the guests at the reception on the courtyard to enjoy drinks and canapes whilst listening to the Choir of Man. Victoria’s father then did his speech, followed by the cake cut – possibly my first outdoor cake cut, which was fun!
Back inside, there was an amazing meal from Kalm Kitchen, with Stylus Live getting everyone dancing between the courses. More speeches followed, then the Israeli dancing got going which is always fabulous to photograph (especially when I’ve remembered to wear sturdy shoes to protect my toes on the dancefloor!).
Micklefield Hall is such a fantastic wedding venue for this kind of day. It feels like a proper country estate, with beautiful gardens, the pond and temple, and lots of lovely spaces to use throughout the day, but it’s just 25 miles from London, so it is remarkably easy to get to. I’ve photographed lots of weddings here and it always works brilliantly. Oh, and the family that run it are an absolute delight!
Victoria and Tom’s wedding was utterly wonderful. Every part felt completely personal to them, from the tiny legal ceremony in the morning through to the Choir of Man performances, the Israeli dancing and all the dancing and laughing in between. Beautiful, emotional, incredibly fun, and with a very good soundtrack.
