As a Micklefield Hall wedding photographer (their favourite photographer apparently, thanks guys!!) I always love an opportunity to work there. Zara and Alex’s wedding was a brilliant day from start to finish, I absolutely loved it (various guests commented it was obvious that I love my job!).
Set in the Hertfordshire countryside, Micklefield Hall is a perfect all in one, exclusive use, luxury wedding venue with beautiful gardens and plenty of gorgeous spots for photographs. On a warm summer’s day, with the rose garden in full bloom, it looked absolutely incredible.
The day started with a lovely relaxed morning while everyone got ready. Zara looked absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. Honestly, she could have stepped straight out of a bridal magazine. She is so warm and smiley, with an infectious joyful energy that my ‘job’ (if you can call it that!) was very easy! Oh and Alex also scrubbed up very nicely!
Before the ceremony, Zara and Alex decided to do a first look, which I think is a great choice. It gave them a chance to have a quiet moment together before everything officially began, settled any pre-ceremony nerves and meant we could get some of their couple portraits done beforehand. This freed up some of the drinks reception later so they could spend more time chatting with their guests.
Although it wasn’t a full Jewish wedding, there were lots of wonderful Jewish traditions woven into the day. The ceremony took place beneath the most beautiful huppah I’ve ever seen, created by the incredibly talented Andrew Fleming Florist, and it made such a stunning focal point. Towards the end of the ceremony came the smashing of the glass, always such a brilliant moment, followed by huge cheers from all their family and friends.
Afterwards everyone enjoyed drinks outside in the sunshine while we made the most of the gardens. The rose garden was absolutely spectacular, with everything in full bloom, and it provided the perfect backdrop for some of my favourite portraits of the day. Zara and Alex were amazing in front of the camera. My favourite moment has to be when I asked Zara to “frolic like you’re in a perfume advert.” They also absolutely smashed a couple of epic dip kisses that looked like something straight out of a movie.
Once everyone headed into the barn for the wedding breakfast, the celebrations continued with the most incredible Israeli dancing as Zara and Alex made their entrance. The energy in the room instantly went through the roof, with everyone joining in, huge smiles everywhere and such a brilliant atmosphere.
The rest of the day carried on exactly the same way, with brilliant food, fantastic entertainment and a packed dance floor thanks to Ambassador Band keeping everyone on their feet.
