Micklefield Hall Wedding Photography – There are some weddings where you know you’re going to have a brilliant day from the moment you arrive, and Amber and Rory’s wedding at Micklefield Hall was definitely one of them.
I was particularly honoured to be asked to photograph this one because Rory is a talented filmmaker. When another creative professional trusts you to document something as important as their wedding day, it feels like a huge compliment. No pressure at all, then!
Thankfully, Amber and Rory made my job very easy. They’re such a lovely couple and had planned a day that felt completely personal to them. They blended Jewish traditions with their own style and personalities and created something that felt really special.
The setting couldn’t have been better. Micklefield Hall is a wedding venue that has everything. The beautiful gardens, gorgeous temple area and stunning barn make it a dream to photograph. Although it was only May, we were right in the middle of a heatwave. The sun shone all day long, guests spilled out into the gardens, and the whole wedding had that relaxed, happy atmosphere that comes with unexpectedly brilliant weather.
There were so many thoughtful personal touches throughout the day. One of my favourites was the collection of photographs of Amber’s grandparents attached to her bouquet. It was such a lovely way to remember family members who couldn’t be there in person.
The ceremony took place beneath a beautiful huppah beside the temple, surrounded by family and friends. It was a gorgeous setting and a really meaningful moment as Amber and Rory officially became husband and wife.
Afterwards, everyone made the most of the sunshine before heading into the barn for the celebrations. One of the highlights came as Amber and Rory made their entrance. Instead of sitting straight down they got stuck straight into energetic Israeli dancing that immediately got everyone involved. It was brilliant fun to photograph (and didn’t result in too many bruises this time!) and set the tone perfectly for the rest of the day.
The speeches brought plenty of laughter, and throughout the meal we were entertained by the always-excellent The Function Band. They manage to turn every wedding into a party long before the evening reception begins, and this was no exception. Guests were dancing on their chairs before the meal had even finished!
As the evening continued, the dance floor stayed busy and the celebrations carried on in exactly the way you’d hope. Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, we were treated to the most beautiful sunset. The warm golden light over the gardens gave us the perfect opportunity to sneak away for a few relaxed portraits before Amber and Rory headed back to their guests.
It was such a joyful wedding to be part of. Beautiful weather, meaningful traditions, fantastic music, plenty of laughter and two very lovely people surrounded by family and friends who clearly adore them. A perfect day from start to finish. Huge congratulations and thanks again for trusting me to capture your day for you!
