Barbican Conservatory Wedding Photography – Wow, this was my penultimate wedding of the year and what an incredible wedding to (nearly) finish the year with! I used to work with Keith years and years ago when we both had very different careers and I was delighted when he got back to touch to tell me he was getting married (yay!) and he wanted me to be their photographer (double yay!).
The two grooms got ready together at their home, and I met them at the Barbican Conservatory. The Barbican Conservatory is a quirky and fabulous central London wedding venue in the Barbican Centre. The Barbican Centre is part of the Barbican Complex in the City of London. It was built between 1965 and 1976 and is a fabulous example of Brutalist architecture and proves a stunning and unusual backdrop to wedding photographs.
Keith and Andrea’s ceremony was at 3pm, which meant that there wouldn’t be much natural light left after the wedding. They also wanted to make sure they spent as much of their wedding reception as possible greeting their guests. We therefore did couple photographs around the conservatory and the Barbican estate before the wedding and it was fabulous. There were lots of happy tears (not just from me!).
After the beautiful wedding ceremony we did group photos in a ‘speed dating’ style, which worked really well. The string quartet played upbeat music and guests rushed by in groups of their choosing to have very quick photos with the newlyweds. This was a great way of getting lots of group photos done very quickly, leaving more time for guests to enjoy the drinks and canapes!
Andrea is Italian and planefuls of his friends and family had flown over to watch him marry the love of his life. I know it’s a stereotype but blimey, the Italians at the wedding were a very stylish bunch! To be fair, the whole wedding was full of very attractive people, from both sides of the continent!
All the speeches at the wedding were fantastic, but both fathers’ speeches were impeccable. Their talk of now having a new son, and the grooms having a new father, meant there weren’t many dry eyes in the house! I didn’t understand the Italian parts of the speeches but they sounded wonderful to my ear as anything in Italian sounds beautiful!
Big shout out to Jo Gendle Films who was A&K’s wedding videographer. Jo is a very talented videographer, but more importantly (from my point of view!) she is very unobtrusive and easy to work alongside, plus she’s fun to hang out with! I’d also like to thank the Barbican Conservatory wedding staff – they did a great job of feeding and watering us!
Huge congratulations Andrea and Keith, your wedding was an absolute delight. Wishing you decades more love and happiness together.
