This wedding was a total joy! I love both Chinese wedding photography and Micklefield Hall wedding photography, so to be able to do both for an exceptionally lovely couple was incredible! Jenny and Nigel are really fun and kind, with lots of friends and their wedding weekend was perfect.
The wedding celebration started with a Chinese tea ceremony followed by a delicious banquet, which I was very kindly invited to share. As well as the food (yum), I particularly enjoyed the traditional rituals of the tea ceremony.
The following day it was time for a civil wedding ceremony at Micklefield Hall. The day started with Chinese door games which are really fun! The groom and his groomsmen have to complete a number of games and challenges set by the bridesmaids to determine whether the groom deserves to marry the bride. Luckily Nigel and his friends did very well! I was particularly impressed by their strength when they had to spell out Jenny’s name with their bodies.
Jenny and Nigel really wanted an outdoor ceremony, which is optimistic in England at the end of October, but they were blessed with a dry start to the day. This meant they could tie the knot by the temple, which is a truly magical place to get married.
The weather actually worked out incredibly well from a photography point of view. We had (mostly) dry weather during the day, but rain in the evening. This did scupper plans for sparklers, but we did some fun night time photographs where I set up lighting to light up the rain…and they turned out very nicely if I do say so myself! Oh and I should mention the first dance – it was amazing, very impressive!
