St Etheldreda’s Crypt Wedding Photography – I lived in London for 14 years and I’m always very happy to go back to photograph a London wedding. Jackie and Alex got ready at the trendy boutique Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell. They threw away some of the traditional conventions of a wedding day, including seeing each other whilst they got ready for their ceremony, which really helped to calm the nerves. They also walked down the aisle together. Oh, and instead of a veil Jackie wore a cape, and it was INCREDIBLE! More capes at weddings please!
The ceremony was held literally across the road from the Zetter, in the Museum of the Order of St John, which is an incredible place telling the story of the ancient religious order which helped pilgrims in the 11th century and is now an international first aid charity (you know the one, of ambulance fame). How cool to get married in a museum?! Jackie was very relaxed about the English weather (hello rain) and walked happily across to the ceremony in her wellies, getting a shout out from a bunch of policemen on the way!
Jackie and Alex are absolutely perfect for each other – their faces light up when they catch sight of each other, so their ceremony was very special. They beamed at each other throughout the whole thing! After the ceremony and a few photographs we went on to the Bleeding Heart Crypt, underneath St Etheldreda’s Church, where they had their wedding reception. This is another amazing historical venue – in the 15th Century Henry VIII celebrated one of his weddings there with a three day feast! It’s now run by the Bleeding Heart restaurant group, who cook the most delicious French food (and looked after me very well – thank you!).
It was a beautiful day – huge congratulations to the newlyweds!
