Bartholomew Barn wedding photography – Wow – what an absolutely stunning wedding! Now, I know I love every wedding I photograph (and just like my children, I can’t possibly have favourite weddings), but I must say that I particularly loved this Bartholomew Barn wedding! Firstly, the barn is a really beautiful wedding venue – it’s set in the middle of nowhere….well, not totally (it’s near Kirdford and nearish Petworth), but it is set in the midst of rolling fields. This is great from a wedding photography point of view because it means that there are stunning vistas in every direction, which is very handy when wanting to work with whatever the sun chooses to do on a different day! Regular blog readers will remember me saying that for photographs light is more important than the background, but in a perfect world you’ll have beautiful light and a beautiful backdrop, which is exactly what we had at this wonderful sunny wedding. I know I tend to go on about the weather a lot (I am British, after all!), but the glorious golden sunshine at Ellie and Matt’s wedding was particularly precious because on the previous day it had poured with rain every minute (I’d been photographing this lovely Essex wedding – still beautiful, but very damp!).
I photographed Ellie and Matt’s Richmond Park engagement session last year, and so I knew in advance that although they don’t particularly like having their photograph taken, they are so sweet together that it is easy taking lovely, natural photographs of the two of them. The whole day was a beautiful celebration of their relationship, and they were surrounded by a lot of loving friends and family. They’ve both got lots of siblings and it was lovely seeing how close both families are. Instead of a more formal wedding breakfast the guests (and happy wedding photographer!) enjoyed a delicious BBQ followed by cakes from the very impressive array of cakes made by the guests (check out the jelly lego bricks and rolo cupcakes – yum). The speeches were very funny. I particularly liked the best man recalling how Matt makes a poor wingman – he’s a blacksmith, and when any girls hear he’s a blacksmith they just want to talk to him about that, rather than talking to his product designer friend!
Ellie and Matt hired me to stay a bit later than possible so we could play around with sparklers! I’d not done much sparkler photography before so in the preceding week I’d been practicing on my poor husband. It was worth it – we had a lot of fun (and thanks to the guys who helped and gave very handy feedback on how well I was running around with sparklers!) and I’m very happy with the ‘LOVE’ picture below.
Congratulations on a wonderful wedding, may it be the start of a very very happy life together.
Love Sarah xx
