Surrey Wedding Photographer – Hannah & Terry, Greyfriars House

I hate to be British and always talk about the weather….but boy were we lucky with the weather for Hannah and Terry’s gorgeous Surrey wedding! I arrived at the venue (Greyfriars House – a stunning mansion in the Surrey Hills) and the sky was grey, with rain forecast all day. However it was dry (just!) whilst Hannah and her dad walked from the car to the church (the lovely Holy Trinity church in Guildford), and despite heavy rain during the ceremony, the newlyweds emerged onto Guildford High Street into beautiful sunshine. It lasted so the guests could enjoy drinks in the garden, then just as we’d sat down to eat there was a heavy hail (yes, hail) storm. Funny old country! It was a really beautiful day – Hannah and Terry looked so happy all day and their friends and family were particularly warm and welcoming.

Here’s a selection of photographs from the day. One of the things I love about wedding photography at Greyfriars House is all the little details inside the house which make for some lovely photographs e.g. a great staircase and fantastic mirrors. This coupled with the pretty garden and stunning views makes it a pretty awesome wedding venue for photography! Another highlight of the day was the three gorgeously cute bridesmaids – they did their job amazingly and were very patient with me and the guests, who couldn’t resist taking hundreds of photographs of them! As you can see below, they got their own back, snapping some shots of their own.

Stunning wedding photography albums by Folio Albums

Following on from my previous blog post about the lovely Jorgensen Albums I offer, here are a few pictures of the other wedding albums I offer. These are from the British company Folio Albums. They are luxury, flush mounted albums. The images are printed on beautiful matt fine art paper (like you might paint on) which is mounted on heavy card. The pages lie flat so you don’t lose any of the lovely images down the spine of the album. The albums are bound in sumptuous leather or natural cotton, with the option to upgrade to a photo cotton cover. Little 6 inch duplicate albums are available which are absolutely gorgeous (and most brides fall in love with as soon as they see one!). As a final plus point, Folio Albums pride themselves on their green, eco friendly credentials.

As with the Jorgensen Albums, even as a professional photographer I find it hard to convey the quality of these albums in photographs! They really need to be seen (and probably stroked!) to get a feel for how lovely they are…so pop over to my home in Wandsworth to have a look if you’re interested. They start at £450 and I can of course send you a price list if you’d like to see it.

So, if you’ve looked at both types of album let me know what you think…which are your favourite? As to my favourite, I hate to sit on the fence but I really can’t decide! I love the classy elegance and simplicity of the Folio albums….but there’s something about the heftier, more traditional Jorgensen albums that I love too. Maybe I’ll just have to save my pennies and buy one of each for my wedding photographs!

Beautiful wedding photography albums by Jorgensen

I’ve just taken delivery of a new sample album from Jorgensen, a wedding album company I’ve just started working with (in addition to the awesome Folio Albums). They’re based in Australia and are renowned as one of the top wedding album suppliers in the world…and now I’ve seen my new album I can see why.

Although I can now supply any of their albums my favourite is their ‘Art’ album range. These are a chic, contemporary version of a traditional ‘matted’ album (the type of album your parents might have). The photographs on each page are presented in a mount, adding depth to the pages and really showing the wedding photographs at their best. They come in various covers including leather and linen, but my favourite is buckram, which is the traditional fabric used in book binding.

It is of course hard to describe the quality (or even convey it in a photograph) so if you’re interested in having a look do pop round to see me in Wandsworth and you can have a good look. I warn you though, once you’ve seen one other albums might well be a bit disappointing! The albums start at £500 – I can of course send you the price list if you want.

Here are some shots of my sample album – a 14×11 inch 30 page Art album bound in Buckram (‘spearmint’ colour). The wedding featured is Charlotte and Steve’s gorgeous Nonsuch Mansion wedding.

A wedding photographer’s ‘off duty’ camera – Fujifilm X20

I often get asked what camera I use when I’m not on ‘wedding photographer’ duty, for casual photographs of family and social occasions. The answer used to be that either I lugged around my professional Canon 5Ds, or if I didn’t want the weight of that kit, or was going somewhere I didn’t want to risk taking it that I didn’t bring a camera….which I always regretted!

I’m now very excited to have bought a new toy – a much smaller camera that I can slip in my handbag that still takes beautiful photographs. I settled on the Fujifilm X20. I’m not a techie so if you’re interested there are lots of reviews on the interweb, e.g. this one, but I wanted to show you a picture of it – I LOVE the retro styling, just GORGEOUS! But oh dear, it means I’m back up to owning 4 cameras (and yes, my hubbie did question whether I actually needed another camera).

My favourite boys

A huge new sheepskin has just arrived for me to use in some of my baby and newborn photography sessions. I’m a bit scared about how large it is – that must have been one giant sheep! I wanted to have a play with using it as a backdrop so persuaded my boys to be models (well – Sam didn’t need much persuading as he stays where he’s put at the moment!)…here are a few photographs of us messing around. Excuse the cramped self portrait – I need longer arms to really embrace the ‘selfie’ trend!

Berkshire Wedding Photographer – Vanessa & Jim

Here are the first few photographs from my first wedding of the season, and gosh did I enjoy it. After going a few months without photographing a wedding (because of a slight pause to have my lovely baby Sam) I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!

Vanessa got ready at her parents’ beautiful home just outside Maidenhead, Berkshire. The house and garden are so stunning that Vanessa’s sister got married there a few years ago.

Vanessa travelled to St Joseph’s church (in Maidenhead) in a lovely old Bentley and was a few minutes early, which is pretty much a first for one of ‘my’ weddings! This meant we got some fun shots of some last minutes guests arriving, horrified that they were there after the bride!

The reception was held at a lovely Berkshire wedding venue, Lillibrooke Manor, with the awesome Funky Buddha getting everyone dancing the night away. Embarrassingly, I emailed Vanessa to ask who her amazing band were….forgetting that it was me who’d recommended them to her!

Surrey wedding and baby photographer – introducing Mia

Last wedding season seemed to be a year for pregnant brides! I got 3 delighted emails around 3 months after photographing a bride’s wedding saying that they had been pregnant at their wedding without knowing it. Such happy news. I was delighted to hear from Danielle and David (whose Grittenham Barn wedding I had photographed last year) letting me know about their very special Valentine’s day present, little Mia, and asking me to photograph her. Here are some photos of her at a week old. As you can see, Danielle and David are absolutely over the moon about their gorgeous little girl!

And finally….she was such a perfectly behaved baby for almost all the shoot….but when she’d had enough she’d really had enough! And how come she still looks super cute even when crying?!
